We may only guess whether the underground water springing from Adršpach rocks in massive artesian springs really miraculous… whether it can cure blindness, some skin diseases, disability and pain. Anyway, many people since 13th century believed that it was so. This belief was caused by Václav Richtermüller who claimed that he experienced a miracle in the town.
It was in 1254 when people were afraid of the mysterious country full of rocks, grown with the dense forests. Only a peasant named Václav was brave enough and was not afraid of the strange „town“. One day he tried to shorten his way home, when a thunderstorm begun. Plenty of huge raindrops was falling from the sky, flashes enlightened the gray clouds and thunder was so noisy that one would say that it roars in your head. The peasant hid to the nearest cave, but the raining continued. So he was forced to continue his way home through the storm. But God did not help the peasant. As Václav left the cave, a lighting hit him. The body fell to the ground.
When the peasant told his story in the village, he was not able to say, how long he was in the rain, dark and cold forest. He only remembered the sad wakening when he observed his naked, dirty and burnt body, when he saw the remnants of his clothes and went to the spring and fell asleep. But what a surprise! When he woke up, he was totally fresh and healthy!
We do not have to believe the miracle that happened to the peasant. Alas, many his neighbours did not believe as well, they even claimed that there was no thunderstorm in the village and Václav only made up a nice story in his fantasy. However, there were people, who believed him. Message about miraculous springs spread quiclky and many people came there to heal their wounds. Anyway, a water from Adršpach-teplice rocks is unique – a sandstone serves as a good filter. And finally, we may thank water for the great stony objects formed there. It had made it together with the freeze, wind and gravitation.
